Just another quick Fine Art post

 It's thesis time so I imagine you all understand the lack of posts.  I am trying very hard to get my thesis done on time.  That said I have an exciting bit of news, I won an award for a piece I entered into The Best of Ringling.  I received the library materials award and the fine arts department actually gave me an honorable mention as well.  :)  Unfortunately I cannot post the piece that made it into the show until after graduation... and I cannot tell you why I can't post it either.  SO!  In lieu of posting that piece, here is my piece for our "Realism" assignment.

The Return

 The requirements for this piece were that I use straight lines and string.  Within those limitations I wanted to create something that would be so playful it would draw the whole class in.  I also wanted to bring everyone back to their childhood.  To that end, the set up is meant to be reminiscent of a kid's science museum with the grid and the shiny numbers and letters.

I called the class over to it, and they looked at the bag hanging on it's string from the ceiling and then I unplugged the end and pushed it toward the rest of the class.  Some people reacted initially, pushing the bag, trying to make it draw on the floor, others didn't warm up to it until the colors started to shift.
  By the end, the whole class was involved so some degree or other and I consider the piece a  success.

In general, cute things do not make it into the serious shows here at Ringling.  Because of that my friend Mandy arranged for a "Cute Show" to occur.  I almost forgot about it but at the last second I realized I was about to miss the deadline.  So, here is the piece I created for that show:
