Post 2/2 final summer post

My dear friend Tammy got married today. For her wedding I gave her a poster-sized drawing for herself and each of her three children. Here is the process sketch I did thinking about Elizabeth's mermaid (see earlier post):
The sketch I did for Tammy's drawing (based on a bunch of thumbnails that I drew and the advice of friends):
And the final for Tammy, which was drawn completely ignoring the previous sketches:
I have been told their flipper-arms are creepy. I don't know why, but I like them and use them often... If they're creepy I should probably stop, I was actually more concerned that people would think I was being lazy, avoiding drawing the hands, but it's attached to a way I used to draw cute little animals with these triangle limbs... which does sound kind of creepy when I say it like that, but it's not really... anyway, I guess I shouldn't apply it to humans any more, but it's a little late to change on this piece.

Post 1/2 final summer post

My dear friend Tammy got married today. For her wedding I gave her a drawing for herself and each of her three children. These are the sketches for the final drawings I did for the boys:
and the concepts that were rejected, (apparently violence is unacceptable when the boys are... 5 and 8? -ish):

I would argue that super-hero stuff is just less honest about it's violence, but whatever, they were fun to draw anyhow.

Poster images for Tammy's Babies (well, kids)

Tammy requested that I do a poster-sized image for each of her three kids for their rooms. The boys are into super-heroes, Elizabeth has no choice but to love mermaids (Tammy's a big fan :)
For Tyler, a Batmanesque character named Colonel Kitten:
For Brenden a Flash-like character named Swift:
And finally, for Miss Elizabeth Rose, a mermaid. (the mermaid is um, more risque, than I had intended...):

All for now. Love and coffee!

Dodo Studies

Becky Fryer is the daughter of a friend of my mother's. She (Becky) wrote a story about dodos and my mother asked if I would be interested in doing an illustration for the story. I did. I was then asked to do illustrations for the whole story as a book. I broke the story down to pages and did color studies:
If they manage to get it published I'll happily to the final illustrations for the book, but I doubt it'll be soon. Each of these little images is two pages in the book.

Kids and Sexbot

Go to my friend Eli's blog. On the left you'll see a robot with a TV screen in his face. SUPER cute. I am certain that robot has been haunting my mind and hence the initial sexbot drawing. It's funny, it is developing into a complete idea, a whole concept... strange thing. There are a great many things I need to change but I like this little watercolor.

I work at Polly's Pancake Parlor in Sugar Hill NH with many lovely ladies (and a couple guys). One of whom asked me if I wouldn't mind doing a sketch of her two boys. I was still caught up in the watercolor so I tried the technique I used for the commission once more. I'll see tomorrow if she likes them.

GD project for Polly's

I should have scanned the original diagram so you could see... I also need to snap a few photos of Polly's. Mostly 'cause it's a pretty cool place. Anyway, we have this diagram at work that is used to divide the dining room among whichever waitresses are working at any given moment and for the hostess to make notes about what time each table was seated. The old diagram was very inaccurate (mine still isn't to scale since it doesn't need to be perfect and wasn't worth the time it would take to measure everything) and didn't reflect the layout of the tables very well. It is now very clear which table is which and I have added places for the times to be written in. Certain tables often seat two parties of two and those tables have spots for both parties arrivals. It's not much but it's nice to know I am making life a little less chaosy for my comrades at the restaurant.
